In 2000, the Dream Act was introduced to provide citizenship to immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children, have grown up here and call the U.S. their home. In December of 2010, five Senators did not have the moral courage to vote for the Dream Act causing it to fail. Following that loss, immigrant rights groups fought long and hard eventually obtaining the biggest victory in 30 years for the immigrant rights movement: former President Obama signing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
For the past five years, almost 800,000 immigrant youth have been protected from deportation and received a two-year renewable work permit allowing them to live without fear, get better paying jobs, support their families and keeping families together.
On September 5, Trump announced that he was eliminating DACA and gave congress 6 months to act. More than a month has passed since the devastating announcement, and Congress has yet to take action. Immigrant youth are now living in fear, uncertain and unable to apply for DACA or renew their applications. Their future hangs in the balance.
That’s why we are calling on congress to pass a Dream Act that ensures that immigrant youth can live without fear of deportation, keep studying, providing for their families and keeping their families together, paying taxes and making our country more vibrant.

El Dream Act fue presentado en el año 2000 para dar ciudadanía a inmigrantes que llegaron a los Estados Unidos como niños, se han criado aquí y consideran a Estados Unidos su hogar. En diciembre del 2010, cinco senadores votaron contra el Dream Act. Después de una campaña de casi dos años, los jóvenes indocumentados obtuvieron la victoria más grande en 30 años para el movimiento de derechos de inmigrantes cuando el presidente Obama firmó la Acción Diferida para Llegados en la Infancia (DACA). Durante los últimos cinco años, casi 800.000 jóvenes inmigrantes han sido protegidos contra la deportación y han recibido permisos de trabajo renovables cada dos años lo que les permite vivir sin miedo, estudiar, obtener mejor pago en sus empleos, y mantener a sus familias juntos.
El 5 de septiembre, Trump anunció que eliminaría a DACA y le dio 6 meses al congreso a pasar una ley para proteger a los jóvenes indocumentados. Ha pasado más de un mes desde el anuncio devastador de Trump y el congreso aún no ha tomado acción. Mientras tanto, miles de jóvenes inmigrantes viven en un tiempo incierto y temeroso ya que no pueden aplicar para recibir DACA ni renovar sus aplicaciones y su bienestar esta en riesgo.
Por eso hacemos un llamado al Congreso que pasen un Dream Act que garantice que los jóvenes inmigrantes puedan vivir sin temor de deportación, seguir estudiando, trabajando, mantener a sus familias unidas, pagando impuestos y haciendo más vibrantes nuestras comunidades.
