“The Trump Administration’s proposed 2018 federal budget is a recipe for hurting communities across America—with rural and low income communities bearing the brunt of these cuts. From decimating our environmental protections by cutting funding for life-saving work done by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to protect the air we breathe and the water we drink, to turning over the land, national parks and special places that belong to us all over to dirty energy producers, to cutting iconic programs like Energy Star designed to save hard-working American families money on energy bills, this budget puts Americans last.
“Mr. Trump’s proposed cuts would take money away from protecting Americans’ health, wellbeing and lifestyle to pay for his anti-immigrant agenda by spending billions of dollars for his border wall and separating families. It would eliminate life-saving programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program that helps low-income residents and the elderly keep the lights on, cut programs that feed the elderly and poor, programs that help low-income Americans build, repair and keep their homes, school programs and key financial aid for college students, to name a few.
“Mr. Trump’s proposed budget reveals his true colors and we call on Congress to reject it outright as an attack on all Americans and contrary to our values of equity and justice for all.”
