VOCES VERDES SUPPORTS NEW REPORT ON IMPACTS OF EXTREME HEAT IN THE MIDWEST
The Risky Business Project, an initiative to quantify and publicize the economic risks of climate change that is co-chaired by Michael Bloomberg, Hank Paulson, and Tom Steyer, released a new report today entitled Heat in the Heartland: Climate Change and Economic Risk in the Midwest highlighting how extreme heat - the signature impact of a changing climate - has the potential to negatively alter the economies of the Midwestern, United States.
Omar Duque, President and CEO, of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce notes, “Businesses are at the forefront of the climate change crisis. As a community of Hispanic entrepreneurs, small business owners and executives in the Midwest, we understand that we must be resilient and prepared. The Heat in the Heartland report outlines the very real impacts of climate change and how these can devastate businesses, cities and lives. It's a clear call to action to act now and focus on helping our businesses innovate while also preparing for the changes ahead.”
“This important report describes how climate change risk will affect businesses, cities and the lives of those families living in the nation's heartland," said Adriana Quintero, Director of Voces Verdes. “We must urge our representatives to double down on their commitment to limit the pollution that causes climate change.”
